More than a Thrift Store…
GN Thrift is operated by Global Neighborhood, a 501c3 Community Benefit Organization based in Spokane, WA. Global Neighborhood is an organization focused on using business to provide former refugees with opportunities for development so they can thrive and contribute as equal members of our community. The thrift store employs former refugees as they settle in the US and pursue citizenship. Your donations and purchases all go directly to supporting our new neighbors as they learn the language, culture, and way of life in their new home: Spokane.
Most former refugees in our job training program work at GN Thrift for six months. During that time they gain job skills, learn more about the culture of employment in America, and work with our staff to remove the barriers to their long term success. GN Thrift strives to provide a safe work space where mistakes can be made and learned from, rather than punished. It’s our expressed goal to not only employ, but provide opportunities for education both in school and on the job. We hope each of our former refugee employees into the work force empowered, and better prepared than they would have been without a graceful transition period.
Come pay us a visit and shop around! And be sure to visit Global Neighborhood’s website to learn more about how we seek to employ, educate, and empower former refugees in Spokane.
